Sue Fraser
Sue is an Australian ceramic artist based in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, she is known for her expressive and evocative ceramic forms that often explore themes of women horses and power where fragility, strength and cultural heritage are expressed in clay. Her work is held in national and international collections, including the Grafton Regional Gallery, Byron Shire Council, Winton Art Award and institutions in Jingdezhen, South Korea and Japan.
Susanne’s ceramics have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and abroad, including Artisans in the Garden at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens, the Clunes Ceramic Art Award, Craft NSW, the Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence presented by Ceramic Arts Queensland and west of the range Galleries. She has also participated SOFA Chicago with https://www.mariaelenakravetzgallery.com/, in Amsterdam, Milan, Brussels, and Stockholm Retrospect Gallery Byron Bay and has been featured in publications such as Ceramics Today, Ceramic Art & Perception, and Craft Arts International.
A passionate global explorer of clay and culture, Sue has completed self-funded artist residencies in Jingdezhen China, Shigaraki Japan, Gangin South Korea and Linchang, Yunnan wood fire Workshop. Sues practice is an ongoing experiment with different clay bodies and ideas enhanced by a commitment to learning different ways of making with a material that offers so many possibilities. Her current practice includes wood firing with a Bourry Box kiln where wood ash, heat and glaze combine to develop unique surfaces.
Sue Fraser will be showcasing her work at Middle Pocket Pottery, alongside Venessa Skye, Jo Norton and Sara Gonzalez during the 2026 Mud Trail.
