Luke Atkinson

Luke first played with clay as a young boy, digging up handfuls and making pinch pots on his family’s rural property in Kellyville, NSW. He studied ceramics during his primary school years and then as part of his Fine Art Certificate at Meadowbank TAFE in 1981-82. A two-year Diploma in Graphic Design at Randwick TAFE then led to a 30-year design career, where he specialised in magazine and newspaper design.

Luke rediscovered his love for ceramics when he began a Bachelor of Fine Arts at The National Art School in Sydney. In 2018 Luke moved to Lismore, where he set up a home studio, Luke currently makes unique homewares; plates, platters, bowls as well as one off decorative pieces.

Luke’s ceramics have been finalists in the Ceramics Art Queensland’s Siliceous Award (2021 & 2025), the Klytie Pate Ceramics Award and Exhibition (2024) as well as the Blacktown City Art Prize (2024). He was awarded a residency at The Corridor Project by Lismore Regional Gallery in 2023, with a follow up exhibition at the gallery.
