Zyanya Walker
Zyanya is a ceramic artist based in the Northern Rivers, NSW. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Secondary Education, she began her creative career in traditional and experimental photography before returning to studio practice with clay in 2015.
Zyanya creates functional ceramic vessels using stained clay and nerikomi techniques, building patterns through the body of each form rather than applying it to the surface. Her work is characterised by earthy palettes, playful abstraction, and a focus on ergonomics, tactility, and everyday use.
Recurring motifs—spirals, suns, stars, flowers, and creatures—explore themes of impermanence, time, cycles, and transformation. Rooted in the fleeting nature of life, her work celebrates the meaning found in daily rituals, connection, and gathering with loved ones.
