Janet Fraser - Hoof Print Pottery
With the elements of life: earth, water and fire Janet creates her individual platters and vessels by slab and wheel. Influenced by living in New Guinea and travels to Japan and the Outback, using different clays and original glazes, each is unique, functional or decorative, reflecting her love of clay
Education: Interior design studies at RMIT with night school pottery class an extra bonus. Janet has expanded her skills through practice and experimentation, attending workshops in Bali, Italy, Japan and Australia.
Exhibitions & competitions: In PNG with other artists at Port Moresby, Lae and Madang and locally with North Coast Ceramics.
Awards: Highly Commended, Port Moresby 1972,
Finalist: Wa Ikebana container, Melbourne 2022 and 2024
Finalist: Crackpot Cup in all three categories 2023
Practical experience gained from sourcing wild clay and experimenting formulating bodies and glazes, processing clay through trial and error and building several kilns, not all successful.
Currently Janet is exploring cutting and sculpting her wheel thrown pots to new organic shapes and textures.
